The Challenge

• Karta was tasked to provide timely, cost effective training for Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard flight nurses and medical technicians. Karta's challenge was to thoroughly cover all important procedures and equipment while keeping the training interesting and engaging. The team created a game-like feel for exercises and scenarios, while keeping keyboard and mouse manipulation simple.
• Create engaging courseware for AE Crew Members (AECMs) with diverse age, education, and computer proficiency backgrounds.

The Solution

• Karta designed and implemented a totally new approach for the small Learjet C-21 aircraft.
• Karta developed a unique 3-D, interactive design with a game-like feel, including the ability to "walk" onscreen AECM around the aircraft.
• Tactile activities enable students to practice procedures and use emergency equipment.

The Results
Karta's Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) Computer-Based/Web-Based Training (CBT/WBT) courseware provides just-in-time training for Air Force active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve medical professionals to support nationwide and global medical missions transporting injured and sick military personnel and civilians to critical care facilities. More than 2,500 flight nurses and medical technicians have used the C-21 WBT supporting a variety of critical missions, including the recent medical evacuation missions for Hurricane Katrina victims.

• The Air Force is now able to rapidly train AECMs on C-21 aircraft.
• More than 2,500 flight nurses and medical technicians are qualified on the C-21.
• AE C-21 Courseware won a Brandon-Hall Excellence in Learning gold medal.
