The Challenge
Southwest Airlines developed a new flight checklist for all 4,200 of its pilots, for use during all phases of flight. However, they needed a cost-effective way to deliver the training to the pilots, and they needed to make sure that the checklist could be implemented throughout all flights on a specified date.

The Solution
Karta developed a CD-based training program that allowed pilots to take the course on their own, giving them the ability to submit their results through the Internet. Karta provided rollout and technical support during the 4-week implementation of the training course.

The Results
Southwest completed the training of their entire pilot population within a one-month time period and for less than a quarter of the cost of bringing pilots into the Flight Training Center to conduct this training. These new operational procedures represent a fundamental change to how Southwest provides "positively outrageous service" to their customers on a daily basis and how the change is of strategic importance to the company. By utilizing the unique approach proposed by Karta, Southwest completed the training of their entire pilot population within a one-month time period and for less than 25% of the cost of bringing pilots into the Flight Training Center to conduct this training. And what's more, through Karta's Solution, Southwest could guarantee that all of its pilots would be using the newly designed and more effective flight checklist, ensuring safer flights for all of its customers.
